Beauty and a Beast

I recently discovered these cute tops on Etsy, when I found out they were made by a fellow BBG girl, Lauren @LaurenChristine_BBG, I was so excited! Her shop is @beautyandabeastco and thier tops are so great! I’ve been wearing mine everywhere! To yoga, for workouts, out shopping, EVERYWHERE. They’re so comfy and I love how they show off my cute sports bras! I really wanted to share a bit of Lauren’s story with you as I find it inspiring.

I could never find the right calling in life, no matter how many times I tried. I went to college, but it just seemed like any major I chose, wasn’t the right one. I started my major in business, moved to business management, and I knew that running my own business was what intrigued me the most. Working for myself always seemed like the only path for me, I just had no idea what to do.

I found out last year that I have sleep apnea, which basically means that you stop breathing while you sleep. Your heart and brain aren’t getting the proper amount of oxygen needed. It is almost unheard of for a 23-year old, female, that’s not overweight to have sleep apnea (I myself thought I was overweight, but not according to medical standards). Symptoms included moodiness, irritability, depression, morning headaches, excessive daytime sleepiness, weight gain, not being able to lose weight and much more. So, this impacted my day-to-day life a lot. I felt like I was never going to be able to find a career in life that made me excited to get up every morning and return to it.

I had surgery to help mediate the sleep apnea, this involved correcting a deviated septum (not a nose job haha), and removing my tonsils, to say that it was the most painful two weeks of my life recovering from those surgeries, would be an understatement. After I recovered I committed myself to working out. Working out before my surgery had been such a struggle because I would work so hard to lose weight, and see no results, so I would give up. Since the surgery I have had way more energy, and felt like a completely new person. It’s amazing what a good night’s sleep can do for you!

After a couple of months of working out, one day an idea just came to me. Females should feel empowered to feel beautiful and like they can do anything that they set their mind to, they can be a beauty AND a beast.

From then on it just started, and snowballed. I wanted my shirts to have meaning, obviously some are just fun and light-hearted, but I also wanted the shirts to make a statement, that as females, we’re not weak and can do whatever we want to in life. I have some shirts that are bold like “Shut up and Squat” or word-pronunciation tanks like “Strength” and “Power”. Beauty has no age or size limit, and I want everyone to feel like they can conquer the world. They best way to put it, is that my shirts are kind of like “wearing your heart on your sleeve”, you want to let everyone know that you are a beauty and you are a beast.

I received a message today from one of my customers saying “I wanted to thank you for my tank top! It really inspired my workout this morning! I really need “power” to be my mantra. It was one of the most successful work outs I’ve ever had. Thanks again!”. That’s when it really hit me that I am doing exactly what I wanted to do and that is to make an impact on woman no matter where, what size or how old they are.

I want to spread positivity. I see too many people, on social media specifically, that will comment on people’s posts like the person that posted it has no feelings, or isn’t a real person. That’s not okay, no matter if the person has 1 million likes on the photo and 20,000 comments. Nothing gives you the right to say that that person is ugly, fat or stupid. You don’t know their life and they could be dealing with things you couldn’t even imagine. So, I would love to put out any positivity that I can. I want people to come together and realize that they can have the same passions without tearing the other person down with jealousy. I hope my words aren’t too mushy-gushy, but that I did want to explain why my company is so important to me, and that it stands for more than just t-shirts. I want to help women all over feel beautiful and empowered.
